Honors Program Eligibility & Application
The Honors Program is for highly motivated students admitted to MSUM who are seeking to do more than just check the boxes and get through their education as fast as possible. It represents an outstanding journey toward personal growth, intellectual independence, and professional preparation. Transfer students, international students, and any student who feels they would be successful in the Honors Program can apply for an individual review. There is no deadline to apply, but a preferred pathway may fill up, so early application is highly recommended.
Please note that the MSUM Honors Program has both class requirements and out-of-class requirements (i.e., attendance at enrichment events) and offers two paths. For students who have not completed most of their LASC requirements, a path focused on honors in the LASC is recommended. For those who have or have nearly completed their LASC requirements, the Honors Capstone is recommended.
To be considered for acceptance into the Honors Program, please:
- Submit a 250- to 500-word essay explaining how you have sought out learning opportunities, both inside and outside of the classroom, prior to applying to MSUM. Email this essay to honors@mnstate.edu.
- Use this booking link to schedule a Zoom, phone, or face-to-face meeting to discuss your application further.
If you’ve been invited to join the Honors Program, you can accept your invitation by logging into the Admissions portal with your StarID username and password.
