CHARISM Community Center is a family resource center designed to create opportunities for individuals and families that increase their strengths and potential. There is currently an after school enrichment program for children grades K-12. Service-Learning students would help tutor from 4-5:30 pm Mondays through Thursdays. There is also a Girl's Group that meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30 pm as an after school enrichment and homework help program. Volunteers help families shop for food. The food pantry is open Monday through Thursday each week. Monday and Wednesday is 6:30PM-7:45PM and Tuesday and Thursday is 1:00PM-3:00PM. Volunteers are asked to come thirty minutes before for a brief orientation and plan to stay up to thirty minutes following close to help re-stock shelves. |

Volunteer Duties: Be an advocate and provide support for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. This requires 48 hours of training. Program volunteers assist with clerical, fundraising, and special events. Court watch volunteers observe and document cases that deal with domestic abuse or assault. Volunteers are also needed for public speaking to schools and agencies about the issues of personal violence and the services the center provides. The Regional Science Center is an outreach program of the university that provides programs to over 20,000 people each year. The Center provides programs in natural history and observation al astronomy at its two sites; the 300 acre Buffalo River Site located off highway ten 15 miles east of Moorhead, MN. The site has a 13,000 interpretive center and telescope observatory built in 1992. The second site is the MSUM Planetarium located in Bridges Hall on the MSUM campus. This facility contains juveniles that have committed misdemeanors and/or felonies in the West Central Minnesota area. It is also used as a holding facility for juveniles who have been arrested and are being released to their parents/guardians. Students are needed to help in the Regional Juvenile Center, helping in the outpatient program with 12-18 year-old youths awaiting sentencing.
