Welcome to the Dragon Community: Ann Sandeen
Ann Sandeen, from Kennon Falls, Minn., is MSUM's newest substitute teacher for the Early Education Center. In Ann's role, she becomes teacher for the day, which means she helps facilitate lessons and guides behavior in the classroom.
Q: Why did you decide to go into the education field?
A: I really enjoyed working with kids when I was younger. Now that I have studied education and am continuing it as a career, I have learned how much I can be an advocate for them, for equality, and I want to help with that because early childhood is such a pivotal moment in young student lives.
Q: What brought you to MSUM?
A: MSUM was one of the only schools in Minnesota where I could get a four-year degree in early childhood education and a minor in special education. And when I came and toured campus it just felt right.
Q: What do you like most about working in the Early Education Center?
A: I love building relationships with students. It is so special and makes my day even better when I see them. I worked in the Early Education Center till I graduated this past December, then I saw that they were looking for a substitute and I thought it would be great to apply because I loved working there so much as a student.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
A: I have been liking scrapbooking lately, I am currently working on one from my time studying in Norway.
Q: If you could only have three apps on your cell phone, what would they be?
- The messaging app.
- The notes app.
- Google.
Q: What is a piece of advice you would give to future students looking to go into education?
A: Take every opportunity that comes your way. As an early ed. student here at MSUM, I have been able to present at conferences, study abroad, and grow as a person and educator.
