Welcome to the Dragon Community: Danek Vega
Danek Vega is MSUM's newest Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. He works with other coaches to create, implement, and monitor strength and conditioning programs for athletes.
Q: What made you want to work with strength and conditioning at MSUM?
A: I did my undergrad with MSUM, and I was around the weight room in Nemzek a lot. So, when my professors told me about the position, I knew it would be a perfect fit for me. I felt welcomed and wanted here.
Q: What does your role all entail?
A: I am at Nemzek getting ready for the teams to come in at 6:00 am. In the mornings we prepare equipment and lesson plans before the students arrive. My favorite part about my role is when I get to hype everyone up in the morning and get that energy rolling for the students.
Q: What do you like about working with athletes?
A: I like working with our athletes especially because everyone is coachable;, they are willing to listen to me and apply the feedback I give them. I just want to help them become better versions of themselves. The biggest point for me as a coach is seeing the athlete's growth and seeing them learn more.
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in the Fargo/Moorhead area?
A: I am a Pound's guy; I am a big fan of their sweet potato fries.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: During my break between groups, I like to get my own lifting in, then maybe go home and take a quick nap or watch some movies.
Q: What is something people may not know about you?
A: Growing up, I was around a lot of animals at my parents' farm, so many people don't know that I actually raised my own baby duckling.
Q: If you could visit any place in the world, where would you go?
A: Mount Everest! I have always enjoyed hiking and being outdoors, so getting to go there would be such an amazing experience.
