MSUM Bias Incident Response Team

MSU Moorhead’s Bias Incident Response Team is comprised of students, staff, faculty, and administrators who serve as a resource for members of the campus community who have experienced a bias incident. We are committed to providing support and resources to those who have been impacted and to provide educational opportunities to all members of the campus community about how to recognize and appropriately address acts of bias.

Minnesota State University Moorhead has an enduring commitment to enhancing Minnesota’s quality of life by developing and fostering understanding and appreciation of a free and diverse society and providing equal opportunity for all its students and employees. Incidents of hate and bias are inconsistent with the mission and values of MSUM. MSUM acknowledges that it occupies the ancestral land of the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe), Dakota (Sisseton, Wahpeton) and Yanktonai Dakota First Nations. We will strive to build toward better relationship between our university and the indigenous people still present with us. A bias incident is an act of bigotry, harassment, or intimidation that is motivated in whole or in part by bias based on an individual's or group's actual or perceived race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, gender, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status, sexual orientation, or familial status.

Reporting a Bias Incident

Anyone who has experienced or witnessed a hate or bias incident on campus, in class, or at a campus function, is encouraged to report this incident. We will provide support and resources for anyone harmed by this type of incident.

Confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. The university will strive to protect, to the greatest extent possible, the confidentiality of the persons reporting and of those involved in the reported incident. The university may have an obligation to address certain reported incidents, including conducting an investigation and, when warranted, taking corrective action.

These reports may be used by university administrators responsible for reporting data and statistics to Minnesota State system administrators, State of Minnesota officials, and federal agencies. The reported information may also be released in accordance to local, state, or federal laws or with your consent.
