The six-credit MSUM Art History thesis requirement will prepare you for art history research—including working with primary sources and original material in archives—as well as public speaking. These skills are highly sought after by employers. A supervised independent study, the thesis project involves identifying a unique art historical or architectural problem and locating appropriate original sources related to it to provide an informed interpretation and analysis. Most undergraduate programs do not have this requirement, so you'll have an advantage when applying to graduate school.

Studying abroad is an excellent investment in your academic goals, future profession and own personal development. It can also help set you apart, whether you want to pursue graduate school or a great career. There are several study abroad program options, including: exchange programs, external providers and short-term faculty-led programs.

Travel to see exhibitions and monuments in person and meet professionals in the field. As you expand your knowledge of art history, you’ll also extend your network of contacts within the field. Contact Anna Arnar for information about upcoming travel opportunities.
